This week the main things I accomplished were: receiving my final copy of my magazine, finishing my questions and starting a new inquiry. Thankfully this week I was able to receive the final copy of my printed magazine on Thursday! This was such a relief and a great moment for me because all of my hard work finally paid off. However, at the beginning of this week I needed something to do since I couldn't work on my magazine. I completed the rest of my questions for my final presentation on Tuesday, and so during class time on Wednesday and Thursday, I started looking into my criminal justice inquiry. All I did this week for that was create a Google Doc to start researching and taking notes in order to get a basic understanding of the topic before the semester ends. Other than that, I haven't done much but I am so thankful that my magazine was finally able to come in so I can present it to my class before the semester is over. Next week I'm hoping to further my notes in my criminal justice topic as well as preparing and presenting my final slideshow and my magazine. this is what the first two pages of my notes on criminal justice look like

This week the main things I accomplished were: creating the final pages of my magazine, making last minute edits and changes, ordering my final magazine, creating my slideshow, and starting my questions. I am SO happy to say that my magazine is finally done. I got the order confirmation the other day and the amount of relief I felt from it was mind blowing. This has been such a long process that was tiring and exhausting at times, but I’m so happy I pushed through and completed it. In order to get to this point I had two last pages that I needed to create and I pushed through and did both of them on Monday. On Tuesday I was able to make my final changes to the entire project, and then finally I ordered it on Wednesday. Since Wednesday was a shorter period, I was able to also work my slideshow that is now done and then on Thursday I started working on my questions. Writing all of this out, I think this might be the most I’ve completed in a week and I’m assuming it’s because this was like the home stretch for me to finish everything. I’m so excited to get the final copy of my magazine which should (hopefully) be coming by the 15th. Over the next couple of weeks as we head towards the end of the semester I’m hoping to finish my questions and then maybe look into one of my other inquiries while I wait for my magazine to ship so I have something to do. I think I might start looking into my criminal law topic so it's sorta like “college” exploration because that is what I am hoping to go to school for. Other than that, I haven’t done anything else and I’m excited for the upcoming weeks. this is my order confirmation for my final magazine this is my presentation for class to talk about my inquiry these are the last two pages I completed to finish my magazine
I shouldn’t really say this week, but over the past two days, the things I was able to accomplish were uploading a bunch of pages into my magazine as well as creating a new page that lists the resources that I used for my project. When I was uploading the pages of my magazine I was getting a little bit frustrated because some of the headers and page numbers that are supposed to be symmetrical weren’t lining up so I had to go in and make a bunch of changes, but thankful after what felt like forever I was able to add in about 10 more pages. When I was doing all of this I realized that for the final product I’m going to need a back cover as well as something to go on the inside of the back cover. I’m honestly not sure what I want to put on the back cover yet because I don’t want it to become a distraction from the front cover but I also don’t want to leave it blank. I was thinking of creating a barcode or a QR code to put in the bottom right corner that links to my website so if you scan it but other than that I’m not sure what I want to include. However, on the inside of the back cover I was able to create a list of my most used resources. I decided to do this because 1. It's a good way to fill that page, and 2. It also allows it for readers to realize I’m not just making up everything I write about. When doing my research I’ve been saving the links to the Google Scholar websites I use and thankfully I did because I was easily able to just throw in the main links I used to create MLA citations for the page. Other than that, I haven’t created any new pages but I think with the rest of class time I have today I’m going to create some the QR code or the barcode to try and get a start on my back cover. this is what some of the pages are starting to look like in the final form of my magazine this is the resources page that I created
This week the main things I accomplished were: creating a few new pages, making numerous changes to the magazine, and beginning to import them into the software I am using to publish and obtain a copy of my magazine. At the beginning of the week I was able to create two pages that are dedicated to VSCO and after that I spent a few hours redesigning the layouts of about 12 pages. I didn’t want to have to do this, but in order for the magazine to upload and print correctly I had to redesign pages that had two pictures on them and move around paragraphs, picture, headers, and page numbers. Doing this took up a lot of time, but after having it completed I honestly like the look of the new pages more than the ones I had before. The last thing I did this week was start to upload the pages into Blurb to see what the magazine is going to look like when it's all put together. Doing this felt super nice because it allowed me to see how all the hard work I’ve been doing is starting to pay off. On Thursday we had a snow day and on Friday I was home sick so if I’m being honest I didn’t get much work done those two days other than going through and editing small changes within the paragraphs. Next week is a half week because of holiday break so I’m planning on uploading more of the pages into Blurb because it’s a bit of a time consumer but it's alright. this is one of the VSCO pages that I created this is an example of what the pages look like in my magazine when they're all put together
This week the main things I accomplished were: creating a few more pages of my magazine, doing more research, and editing previous pages that I already had. At the beginning of this week I spent my asynchronous days doing my research for the pages of my magazine designated to the positive sides of social media which was super refreshing if I’m being honest. Throughout the entire project I've been focusing on how our mental health is negatively affected by this topic, so to spend some time focusing on the good sides of it was really nice. One thing that also surprised me about this is how much we have twisted the social media apps we use. Of course I knew we did considering that’s what my project is about but when I was doing my research, I looked more into the initial intentions of all the apps and the way we use them now is SO different from the intentions which I thought was crazy. On Tuesday and Wednesday I was able to create the pages for the positives which was made up of just the usual paragraphs and pictures as well as my second Pinterest page, and on Thursday in class I went through and made edits to previous pages and just fixed some of the annoying technical things that needed to be done in order for the magazine to print out and look presentable. (I’ve never really explained what these changes are so when I say I made edits and changes, I’m doing things like: changing the placements of the numbers on the pages, fixing the headings, changing the watermarks of the “Social Magazine” on all the pages, and altering where different paragraphs and pictures go in order to make the pages work. All of these are super boring but necessary steps in order to finish my project so whether or not I like it, I have to get it done.) One other super fun thing I did this week was my interview with my classmate Katelyn. I mentioned last week how I offered to do an interview for her project and so on Tuesday when we talked, I was actually able to pick up some really interesting information that shocked me and I think is going to be really beneficial to some of the pages in my magazine. Next week I have it planned out to continue the same sort of work with doing research and making some new pages for the magazine so I’m looking forward to that. these are the three pages that I created this week
This week the main things I accomplished were: doing more research, going through and making changes to the pages I already have created for my magazine, and creating 3 new pages. Monday and Tuesday were the days that I dedicated to researching and when I did this, I was able to find information for my TikTok and Pinterest pages. After doing that, I put together my first TikTok page on Tuesday and then completed the other one as well as my first Pinterest page in school on Thursday. After our zoom on Wednesday, I dedicated time to making changes to the previous pages I have done. All I did with this was go through and proofread previous pages that I have completed to check for spelling/grammar errors as well as replace some of the images that I didn’t like. Being completely honest, I’ve replaced almost all of the pictures that I originally had because I was introduced to Unsplash and I think the quality of those pictures are a lot better than the ones that I had before. One other thing that is super exciting is that I’m going to be getting interviewed by a fellow classmate for their project they are doing. We both have similar topics where her’s is solely about mental health and mine is obviously how social media affects our mental health but I think it's nice that we are finally doing something together. I’m super excited for the interview because when I was emailing back and forth with her some ideas of social media were brought up and I’m hoping to gain some knowledge from her interview that I can incorporate into my project (with her permission of course). Other than that, my goals next week are creating some new pages and getting more research done just like this week. these are the 3 pages that I completed this week
This week the main things I accomplished were: creating a few more pages for my magazine, peer assessments, and starting to fill out my planner for the rest of the semester. This week on Monday when I went onto Canva to start designing more pages, I realized that 2 of my pages had been deleted. Because of this setback I’m a little bit behind and I was only to complete 4 pages this week, instead of the 5 I had planned to do. The pages that were deleted were my 2nd Facebook page and my 1st Instagram page, so after a bit of work I was able to recreate those as well as create my 2nd Instagram page, both Twitter pages, and 1st Snapchat page. In order to catch up I’m planning on working on the pages this weekend so I can get back on track and hopefully don’t have another issue like this again. One good thing that happened this week though was that Mrs. Miklavic introduced me to a website called “Unsplash” and it is amazing. Last week I talked about how I’m struggling to find good pictures for the magazine and she introduced me to a solution for this issue. If you look at the pictures for my evidence this week you can see how different the style of pictures are since I was introduced to Unsplash, and personally I think it looks much neater and professional. Two other things I did this week were peer assessments of my classmates' websites as well as beginning to plan the rest of the semester on the planner that we were given during class. I did something similar to this last week but I think laying it out again is going to give me the opportunity to leave room for unexpected issues similar to the one that I had this week. Next week I have planned to do some more research to prep myself for the upcoming weeks as well as create some more pages. I think I might replace one of the days of research with time to allow myself to catch up on my pages dedicated to Snapchat, so I can get back on track but I’m going to have to see how much I accomplish over the weekend. these are the (new) pages that I was able to create this week
This week the main thing I accomplished were: creating more pages for my website, creating a planner for the rest of my project, and planning out some more research. After last week I dedicated the majority of this week to create different pages for the magazine. I was able to create 3 new pages, 2 for Facebook as well as my first one for Instagram. One issue that I ran into this week was finding images for the Instagram pages. Last week I mentioned that I was going to be trying to find pictures that match the color scheme of the app I’m talking about and when I did this, I was able to find the necessary ones for Facebook, but finding ones for Instagram has been extremely difficult. During class on Thursday, I spent a portion of my time looking at different ways that I could possibly take the different pictures and edit them to make them have the colorful aspect to them but no matter what approach I took, it didn’t seem to look right. I think I might look up different videos on YouTube to see if I can find anything that might allow me to make this idea work because I really like how it came out with my pages for Facebook. One other thing that I took some class time to work on Thursday was a planner for the rest of my project. I felt like I was going at a good pace with the work I accomplished but I realized that if I had an exact planner telling me when I need to get certain pages done, it would allow me to motivate myself better and work with stricter deadlines. When laying it out, I split up different weeks based on how many pages I need to get done based on when the semester ends so I can have time during the last couple of weeks so I can order a final and printed version of my magazine. Other than that I have just been continuing a little bit more research in order to prepare myself for different pages but I didn’t do too much with that because I didn’t want to overload myself with information that I haven’t created pages for yet. Next week I have it planned out to do a couple more pages (second Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat). I think this week I had a bit of a setback when it came to certain things but I’m hopefully going to find a way to recover from it and edit the photos the way that I would like them done. these were the pages that I was able to create this is the planner that I created that leads me up until Christmas break
This week the main things I accomplished were: redesigning/creating some of my magazine pages and researching. After last week, I decided that instead of focusing and stressing myself out with creating pages for my final project I just needed a “calmer” goal. I figured I would put my time into researching and after doing so, I was able to come up with about 3 full pages of notes. My main topics I was looking into this week were actual social media platforms. When doing this, I was able to get a good start to my information for Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. One thing I noticed when doing this, was that information on the actual downsides of the platforms is hard to come across. I went through countless websites for all 3 platforms but almost every source I looked at said the same thing about how the platforms are “bad for our health because they make us feel depressed” which isn’t going to contribute well to my project. I wanted real information, quotes, and studies, and thankfully after a lot of digging and scrolling through websites, I was able to find some information. When I came into school on Thursday, I decided I wanted to create another magazine page but limit myself to just one so I don’t get overwhelmed because of how much information I had. The page I created in class was about how teenagers specifically are at a higher risk of being affected by social media’s negativity and I think I’ve created my final product for that page but then again I will probably make some more changes. The last thing I did during class on Thursday was try and figure out how I’m going to incorporate color into the magazine which I know sounds weird but it’s something that's been on my mind a lot recently. I knew going into this that I wanted the pictures to go along with what I was writing about but I didn’t want them to get in the way of the information. Keeping this in mind, I decided that I was going to find images that correlate with the color of what I’m talking about. This might sound strange but I think it's a creative way to incorporate color while still matching the theme of the magazine. For example, the pages in the magazine that are dedicated to Facebook are going to have a blue-ish hue to them to match the color of Facebook and then Twitter will also have blue, Snapchat will have yellow, etc. Next week I’m hoping to focus more time on creating pages in the magazine because of how much information I was able to find this week. this was the information I was able to find this week this is the page of my magazine I created during class
This week the main things I accomplished were: creating more magazine pages, doing more research on different social media apps, and sorting through all the responses Rylie and I were given on our survey. Creating the pages for the magazine were the things that took up the majority of my time throughout the week. I was able to create 3 new pages for the magazine which didn’t seem like a lot to me but when I thought about it, I realized how long each page really took me. I had to go through and cut different notes from my research that I didn’t think were important and then word my notes into paragraphs that sound professional enough for a magazine but also simple enough for younger readers to understand. After that I find images on Google for the pages which take longer than expected because of quality issues, but I’m proud of how they are looking. It became overwhelming for me at some points but I took breaks doing more research. I have started looking more into the specific social media platforms and the more I research, the more invested I become into the project which I think is driving me through this. The last thing I did this week was go through all of the different responses that were given on the survey I created with Rylie. When looking through the responses I thought it was interesting because majority of the people agreed with each other but there were some questions that were either split or had people give different answers than the common response. The one question that stood out to me the most though was, “do you think society would be better off without social media?” I was genuinely shocked when I saw that the responses were split 50/50 between yes and no. It was one of the very few questions I thought was going to have a unanimous answer saying yes we would be better off. Other than that, the responses were pretty much common with a few oddballs everyone once in a while which I’m going to be sure I include in my magazine. Next week, I hope to create a couple more pages for the magazine and continue my research. these are the 3 pages I was able to create these are responses to 2 of the questions on the survey
